I Love A Parade (Seen From Above)
Six years years ago I woke at 5:30AM on Thanksgiving Day. A bus and train ride later we had secured a spot to watch the annual Macy's parade in New York — 2.5 hours before it began. Untold thousands of other showed up during the time waited steadily pushing us back from our original spot. By the time the parade began, all we could see were the balloons floating above the heads of the crowd. We decided that the best view was on television in our living room. Until this year...

{balloons floating}

I love these! And I'm very dizzy looking at them. I can only wonder if any of these floaty things have ever gotten away from a parade. It would almost be a shame if they hadn't. A side question inspired by one of the pictures: Are little kids still playing with Mr. Potato Head, meaning is Mr. Potato Head still a popular toy? I'm guessing it might be, if Mr. Potato Head appeared in the parade, but then it seems so 70s. Inquiring minds want to know.
none of them got away during this parade. they were safely anchored to at least two golf carts and legions of rope holders. i've seen parts of them go flat but i think it is impossible for them to completely deflate from a puncture.
as for mr. potatohead, this is the new 'active' version. he sports athletic shoes and a water bottle. millions of kids are now much more active because of these changes. role models have probably switched, too.
When will some youtube daredevil leap onto one of those balloons from above? Dora looked like a good target.
My three year old enjoys her classic Mr Potato Head. Sometimes I get to wear the earrings.
mark, these are the most beautiful parade images i've seen. of course, i've always loved your photos, but these are stunning, really.
